LA-based singer, songwriter, producer and violinist Sudan Archives releases her new single “Nont For Sale” today and announces her new EP Sink, set for release 25 May via Stones Throw. “‘Sink’ describes the way I want my music to make you feel,” she says, “It’s inspired by my love of fluidity, movement of jellyfish and water.” Check out “Nont For Sale” here ahead of her debut Coachella performances later this month.

Having recently wrapped up a tour with Tune-Yards, Sudan Archives is taking her electrifying live performance to the festival circuit. She started festival season off strong with several shows at SXSW that were praised by the likes of NPR, Paste, New York Times, and Chicago Tribune. She continues onto Coachella, where she is scheduled to play both weekends, followed by FORM Arcosanti and FYF Fest, before heading to Europe, where she will play at Field Day, Best Kept Secret, RUSH Festival, and more.

Sudan Archives (Sudan for short) grew up in Ohio where she taught herself to play the violin in elementary school, mostly by ear.  After moving to Los Angeles she began to explore her connection to Northeast Africa. Upon discovering the violin playing style of both Northeast and West African fiddlers and musicians like Asim Gorashi, Ali Farka Touré and Juldeh Camarah, her eyes opened to new ways of incorporating this instrument into her sound. "The way they played the violin was different from classical music. I resonated with their style, and I was like, maybe I can blend it with electronic music." Dropping early this summer, Sudan Archives’ Sink EP will be a further distillation and exploration of her distinctive mélange of disparate influences.

Since its release last summer her debut EP earned Sudan Archives the #1 spot on the Vinyl Factory's Favorite 12"s of 2017. The Guardian tipped her one of their artists to watch 2018 and LA Record put her on their cover, and she’s also received glowing accolades from FACT Mag, Pitchfork, Vogue, LA Weekly, and many more.
